Mogs and I took a morning trip to our local cider mill yesterday. It was an amazingly sunny, fall day– just right for the debut of her new “riding hood.” I made this hat for her last weekend from fabric that I had around the house. The exterior is from a “fat quarter” sample from our local quilt shop, while the lining and brim are from a baby towels that I recycled. It ties at the bottom with some green ribbon. A bit big, but I think it will last through the winter. I made the pattern up and spent a frustrating hour tearing out the seams and starting over to get it right. I made 1/2 a dozen others with a variety of fabrics to sell at our winter craft fair. They each have a little elfin point on top. For my next round of hat making I want to invert the point, to not be so elfin–sometimes you’re just not in the mood for the elfin thing.
The cider mill is always a fun trip. Mogs loves to visit the animals; although she tends to be a bit nervous around them. She clings to my leg and wants me to hold her. When we walk away from each pen, she always waved at the animal and said the sweetest, “Bye-bye.” We bought some delicious apple cider donuts to take to Tony at work. She tried half of one and was in a suger coma for the rest of ride home. Once we got in the house she threw up–guess she doesn’t have her dad or mom’s tolerance for the sweet stuff!
