So, I went to an informational meeting about the public art project. My proposal, which will be submitted in the next week, will detail a fiber art piece involving an enormous amount of time wet-felting wool roving by hand. I will have to do it bit by bit over several months. While the honorarium given to selected artists wouldn’t truly compensate for my hours producing the piece, I am excited to apply and think it is a great opportnity for me to get out into the local art scene. Having a public art credential on my resume, however temporary the installation, would be a great boost for me at this point in my life. I am even more excited that I was able to convince Tony to apply to the project, too. He would submit a literary work for his proposal. Just like me he sees the project as a real incentive to get to work—it would be incredible for either of us to be selected! (Plus, we’d use either of our honorariums for the same thing—a long, long, long overdue vacation.)
On a side note, I made this little project for a little friend of mine who turned 3. It’s one of those felt boards with movable pieces. I gave him extra felt so he could create his own images. It’s pretty silly, but I had fun making it.
