It’s true, I am a weather geek. Ever since we moved into this house with a great western view and garden space, I’ve been more attentive to the weather. I’m a regular visitor to the regional National Weather Service site, going so far as deciphering the “forecast discussions” by the meteorologists:
.SYNOPSIS…A POWERFUL STORM SYSTEM HEADING NORTHEAST TOWARD BRITISH COLUMBIA WILL BRING HEAVY RAINS TO THE AREA ALONG WITH DAMAGING WINDS TO THE COAST TODAY. THE STEADY RAIN WILL TAPER OFF TO SHOWERS TONIGHT ONCE THE COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH. MOIST…ONSHORE FLOW WILL KEEP THE WEATHER UNSETTLED ON TUESDAY.
&&
.SHORT TERM…
VERY BUSY THIS MORNING WITH FLOODING AND HIGH WINDS. HIGH WINDS CONTINUED OVER THE COAST AND OLYMPICS THIS MORNING…WITH WINDS GUSTING AS HIGH AS 93 MPH AT SEKIU EARLIER TODAY. ELSEWHERE WINDS WERE MUCH LIGHTER…THUS HAD DOWNGRADED THE HIGH WIND WARNING ISSUED EARLIER FOR THE HOOD CANAL AREA…ADMIRALTY INLET…ERN STRAIT OF JUAN DE FUCA…AND EVERETT AND VICINITY. FOR THE MOST PART…THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE OVER THE COAST AND OLYMPICS TODAY. CONCERNING FLOODING…URBAN/SMALL STREAM FLOOD WARNINGS ARE POSTED FOR THE ENTIRE AREA DUE TO THE HEAVY RAINS. 10-15 OLYMPICS AND SW PART OF THE CWA WITH LESSER…BUT STILL SIGNIFICANT…AMOUNTS ELSEWHERE. RAIN…HEAVY AT TIMES…WILL PERSIST BEFORE GRADUALLY DECREASING LATER TODAY..LONG TERM…FROM THE PREV DISCUSSION…GFS SHOWS AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BUILDING W OF B.C. WEDNESDAY…AND SHOWS IT STRONG ENOUGH BY THURSDAY FOR DRY NW FLOW TO DEVELOP OVER W WA. MAY BE BE POSSIBLE TO DROP THE SHOWERS AND GO WITH A DRY FORECAST AT LEAST FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. WILL LEAVE THAT FOR THE DAY SHIFT. KAM
That last part (in red) is an example of those wacky meteorologists inserting humor into their forecasts. Did I mention I’m a weather geek?
Anyway, as the above forecast confirms, it was hella rainy today. Mogs and I are stuck inside. She gets a bit cranky when we have an all indoors day, so I am doing my best to help her find stuff to do. We attempted to paint this morning. I had a great time, but she wanted to throw the brushes around the kitchen. We also attempted to make a paper garland–how would I know that paper garlands were much more fun to pull apart then glue together? She is certainly showing her 2’s (we don’t call them temper tantrums in these parts, although that’s exactly what they are.)

We did put up our Christmas tree yesterday, which motivated me to finish our tree topper. I made a Mary & Jesus/Mother & Child/Solstice Nest figure out of wool felt (thereby, satisfying all the holiday beliefs in our house). I wet felted a ball for the head; needle felted the features; then, sewed the head onto a wool felt cone base. I added a fabric loop for arms and inserted a needle-felted baby. The shawl is a wet-felted nest (flat felt) that I made for another project but didn’t end up using.
