I joined an Art2Mail postcard exchange group this past month. My group, the 41st group formed through Art2Mail, is comprised of 25 artists. We agreed that each of us will make 24 postcards to send to everyone in the group within the next 2 months. So, by mid-March we should have made & sent 24 postcards and received 24 different postcards from all over the world. Pretty nifty, huh! This is my first time participating in an exchange, but some of our members have been doing this kind of thing for awhile. I’ve been having fun playing with fabric scraps and getting to know my sewing machine a bit more intimately. (Although I love hand-embroidery, I don’t think I have the energy to make 24 cards in that manner.)
New groups are forming all the time over at Art2Mail. Not a big commitment of time or money (you pay for mailing your own postcards, which I think we’ll be 41 cents/card, plus 17 cents for hand cancelling.)
Here are my first 4 cards:
“Snail Mail”-not a terribly original name, but I do love snails & kimono fabric!

“Winter Sun”–orange sunshine goodness.

“Sweetpea”–A little hand-embroidery I started for another project but didn’t finish. I like the scallops around the edge of the handkerchief–thanks you Magnolia 7330.

“‘X’ Marks the Spot”–My high concept fabric postcard. I will loosely whip stitch the edge of the pocket to keep the little drawing from slipping out in transit.

Carrie, those are really great. I am desperately searching for more time in my life so I can do art2mail also. You are inspiring me every day.
I don’t think the time commitment is to high for Art2Mail. The group decides when the deadline for completion will be. I think it can go anywhere from 2-6 months. I am not too effecient, but some folks make a bunch of the same style to make it go a bit quicker. Good to hear from you!
