Another version of “My Bonnie” illustration. I wanted to play with the lettering and have a lighter touch with the lines. I still like the composition of this one, but don’t like the cartoon-like figure of the girl. My overall goal for this project is to use the song lyrics as the basis for a series of illustrations. I guess this would make a children’s book although that term seems intimidating to me at this point. Having a structured project has helped me approach my drawing deliberately–otherwise, I find that I feel really ungrounded. With quiltmaking, I would come up with a few designs then spend weeks on the sewing and construction. Since the drawings/paintings I’ve been doing are much quicker to execute than a quilt, I am trying to rework my designs over and over until I am satisfied. I recently read somewhere that an artist doesn’t need to find a particular style–they only need to keep on working and a style will find them.

this is my favorite- i like the value, the hue and the line — the expression is a good one and hard to achieve. it is a genuine expression. d
