“The stars seemed near enough to touch and never before have I seen so many. I always believed the lure of flying is the lure of beauty, but I was sure of it that night.” -Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart was the first image I thought of when I read the topic: poof! I haven’t thought about her since I was a kid, although at that time I was really fascinated about her mysterious disappearance. It took two years from the date her plane disappeared until she was declared dead, along with her crew member, Fred Noonan. I knew about the lingering controversy and remember holding out hope that she would one day resurface under a new identity herding sheep in France or something. I guess she would have been in her 80’s at that point; but there was a tiny shred of hope in my childhood heart.

nice rendering. great story.
Wow, I’ve always wanted to think she was the first secret agent, living another life and having great adventures, too!
Great illustration and wonderful interpretation!

I have to admit I didn’t know her – till now! Your illustration is wonderful – kind of magical! I also enjoyed the illu you posted last week for the topic “Canned”.
sigh. carrie, is this one for sale? i love it!
Pretty illustration! I like the quote too. My dad is a pilot, I am going to share the quote with him too.
she’s personal hero of mine (dislike the term ‘heroine’ as much as ‘actress’ or ‘comedienne’ BTW) and i think this is a fine honor you’ve bestowed.
I’ve always been fascinated with Amelia Earhart, and your illustration rocks!
