No, I’m not quiting my blogs or websites (5 and counting…). I just wanted to mark the passage of time. We northwesterners tend to go into hibernation each fall. Sure, you might catch a glimpse of us during the fall ArtsWalk (I’ll be showing paintings at Wind Up Here) or out on the town during the holidays, but for the most part, we hunker down for winter. I laugh each spring when I see someone I haven’t seen in ages and wonder if they still live in town. “Oh, yeah, I live here still, just been hibernating for the winter.” The days are getting shorter and the evenings are downright cold; soup and baked goods are calling out to me; I’ve already rolled up the garden hose; and I’m crossing my fingers that the pumpkins will orange-up a bit before they start to rot.
Fall time activities we are looking forward to: Picking out a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch (even though we have 3 giant ones in the yard); making pumpkin seed brittle (I’ll share the recipe when I dig it out, but I believe it’s from Martha Stewart); visiting the animals at the cider mill and buying apple doughnuts; celebrating Tony’s 36 birthday; hosting a chili and pumpkin carving party at the end of October; jumping in colorful leaf piles; trick or treating with our little clown; the election (only two months left of this drama filled affair, although I’ll be a little sad to see it go); and, if all goes well, potty learning for Mogs.
So, I guess we won’t be hibernating after all. If you don’t see us out and about, give a call. We’ll love to have you over for some hot cider and a cup of chili!
