#176 R is for Ernestine Rose

Ernestine Rose was a major force behind the women’s movement during the 19th century. She submitted the first petition for women’s rights in 1838 calling for civil and property rights for married women. It had 5 signatures on it! She spent the next decade filing more petitions and gathering more signatures until rights were finally won in 1849.
