I read about Allison Manch in the Seattle Weekly a few weeks back.  Although I didn’t get a chance to see her show, I did check out her website.  I love the embroidered song lyrics, especially the “Buffalo Stance”!  (We taught Mogs how to do the Buffalo Stance pretty early on…I think it may be her [...]

The above banner is a photo of a sweater that my grandma made.  In her day she could knit up a storm.  I don’t think I ever saw her in anything but a hand knit skirt and sweater.  Growing up in the seventies I was given a handknit sweater for just about every occasion.  Most were [...]

If I lived a bit closer to Seattle, I would go to Katy Stone’s  SPLENDOR ROT exhibition at Greg Kucera’s gallery.  Her artist’s statement describes her work as:
…”(h)ints of the seemingly disparate impulses of both minimalism and “maximalism” (the Baroque, Symbolist, Romantic and Rococo)”

I think it goes with my love of all things wintery.  I love Carl Larsson’s work.  In fact, I bought a 2008 calendar of his work today–for the second year.  I especially like the “ground” in his work–those spots where the painting is sketchy and flattened (like the floor and ground in many of his [...]

Mogs and I didn’t have a good morning.  No sir.  I have a curved bruise on my index finger from her teeth.  She bit down and wouldn’t let go.  Books litter the living room–hers and ours.  Milk was spilt and tears were shed–hers and mine.  The day has been saved by two things.  First, Tony agreed to [...]

Since I have only recently entered back into the art and craft universe, I am kinda late to the discussion.  I’ve been checking out back issues of Fiberarts magazine from the library–sorry to other patrons for hoarding them all!  It is a great magazine–accessible and informative.  I love that they feature student work, that they [...]

Today is the deadline for the public art project.  I am proposing to make a series of Northwestern Crow nests to be installed in a small grove next to a downtown playground.  The application was challenging in that the installation can only be up for one month.  Materials need to be appropriate to a temporary project (i.e. [...]

Baby steps

Since reemerging as an artist, I have found myself creating little goals for myself.  Actually, my goals are pretty daunting; although nicely spaced so it doesn’t seem too overwhelming just yet.  I decided to submit a proposal for a public art project sponsored by our city to be exhibited in our downtown area.  It is a temporary [...]
